The Grand Hotel was built by the British in 1872 and this heritage property is one of the first hotels to be built in Nainital. Known originally as The Albion, the name was later changed to Mayo Hotel and then finally to ‘The Grand Hotel’. The Hotel boasts of one of the best locations in town, with a panoramic view of the emerald green lake and the mountains which tower along its edge.
Its uniquely colonial style of architecture – long open verandahs, stone walls, wooden floors, high-ceilinged rooms with carefully preserved fireplaces and Victorian style furniture – makes for a memorable rendezvous with a bygone era.
The Grand’s perfect blend of the modern and traditional, with its old-world charm, offers not just a holiday, but also a peek into the days gone by – a world of ballroom dances in the Lounge and grand banquets in the old Dining Hall. We may not have the roaring fires anymore, but we certainly haven’t lost any of our warmth, and it is with the greatest of pleasure that we look forward to welcoming you and your family to stay with us and sit back and feel time slow down.
